Avenue defender Shane Killock has become the first player to commit to Mark Bower’s side for the 2017-18 campaign.
The centre back has signed a one-year contract, having established himself as a vital part of Bower’s side last term.
Killock made 34 appearances in all competitions, solidifying his place in the team after an injury hit start to the season.
“The gaffer has rang me at the end of the season and told me he wanted me to stay, and I made no hesitation,” the defender said.
“Even though we didn’t do great last season I’ve enjoyed being at the club, and hopefully we can continue to improve and build on it.
“We have been on a good run in the last few months of the season, and I don’t think we’re that far away as a squad.”
Having worked with manager Bower before, Killock grabbed at the chance to continue working with him in the coming season at Avenue.
“I know Mark, he took me on loan from Harrogate when he was at Guiseley the year they were promoted to the Conference,” the 28-year-old explained.
“So I know what he’s about, he’s a really nice bloke and all the lads take to him straight away. I’m delighted to be back with him for another season.
“Hopefully he can bring in a few new faces to add to what we’ve already got, and hopefully we can be challenging and go on to be more competitive than we were last season.
“We know ourselves that it wasn’t the best season, and obviously not winning for the first 15 games you are always going to struggle.
“It’s going to be another very strong league next year, having seen the teams that are coming down as well as teams like Kidderminster and Salford who have lost in the play-offs.
“But we want to be as competitive as we can, and we’ll see where that gets us come the end of the season.”
28-year-old Killock moved to the Horsfall Stadium last summer, making the step up from Northern Premier League First Division side Scarborough Athletic.
He started his career at Huddersfield Town, leaving briefly to play in the Northern Premier League for Ossett Albion at the tender age of 15.
The defender has played the majority of his minutes in a spell at AFC Telford United, where he made 132 appearances, going on to spend three years at Harrogate Town, a time which included a short loan stint at Bower’s Guiseley.
Last season he started at Hyde before joining Scarborough in January, suffering a horrific injury in March as he fractured a number of bones in his face in a match against Ossett Albion.
“I’m really pleased that Shane has committed for next season,” manager Bower added.
“His performances have been consistently good for us since I’ve been at the club and he was one of the unsung heroes of last season’s great escape.”
Killock was also impressed at Avenue’s Season Ticket offers for the coming season, as he modelled the poster advertising the cut-priced deals.
