Striker Oli Johnson has become the second member of Mark Bower’s squad to sign a contract for the 2017-18 season.
The front man scored five goals in 13 league appearances after joining Avenue permanently at the end of January, becoming a key figure in the club’s run to National League North safety.
29-year-old Johnson had spent a month on loan at the Horsfall Stadium earlier in the season, briefly returning to parent club Guiseley before returning to Bradford on a permanent basis.
He is well known to Avenue boss Bower, as the forward was a key part of his Guiseley side that gained promotion from the Conference North.
He made 34 appearances and scored eight goals as the Nethermoor side were promoted to non-league’s top flight in 2015.
While coming through as a striker, Johnson has often featured in a “number 10” role for the Lions in behind a main front man.
Born in Wakefield, the 6′ tall attacker started his career with Nostell Miners Welfare in the North Counties East League before attracting the attentions of Stockport County in 2008.
Johnson spent just over 12 months at Edgeley Park, netting seven goals in 38 League One appearances before joining Norwich City in January 2010 for an undisclosed fee, singing a two-and-a-half year deal.
Starts were limited at Norwich however, and despite netting four times in four starts and 13 short substitute appearances as City earned promotion to the Championship, Johnson found himself slipping down the pecking order.
He left Carrow Road initially on loan, with two spells at Yeovil Town across two seasons, before joining Oxford United permanently in January 2012. His spell at Norwich in fact saw him score once every 140 minutes.
His time at Oxford was short-lived, and then injuries hampered a season at York City before Johnson joined Guiseley in 2013, soon to be managed by Bower.
In four years at Nethermoor, and across two divisions, Johnson netted 14 goals in 44 starts and was named in the Conference North team of the year alongside current Avenue player/assistant manager Danny Boshell at the end of the promotion winning 2014-15 season.
