Bradford (Park Avenue) secured their place into the next round of the FA Cup with Budwesier, defeating Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.

The Avenue were missing Jordan Deacey (suspension), Adam Clayton (knee ligaments), Ross Daly (hip) and new loan signing Liam Needham.

The visitors started brightly, with Paul Walker appearing to be the main threat on the left wing. However, the tricky forward saw a cross to the back-post nearly catch the Blues’ goalkeeper Joshua Ollerenshaw out, but, the ball hit the roof of the net.

Nevertheless, the Evostik First Division North side were looking to capitalise on some hesitant defending, but, Kristian Dennis could only drag his shot wide from 25 yards.

After 12 minutes, the Avenue came close to taking the lead. A far post delivery from loanee Craig Radcliffe was controlled by Paul Walker, and his cross was met by the sliding Danny Holland, who could only strike the bottom of the post from a tight angle.

Three minutes later, Bradford wasted a good opportunity. Despite a neat one-two between Alex Davidson and Danny Holland, Davidson was unable to get his side-footed effort on target from 12 yards.

However, Curzon Ashton were unfortunate not to break the deadlock, as Simon Lakeland’s deep cross found the head of the diving Tony Evans, only for the header to fade away from the far post from 12 yards.

A minute later, the Blue Square Bet North outfit took the lead. Bradford’s midfielder Richard Marshall found space to run into, and threaded a ball into the path of Alex Davidson. Then, the winger struck a magnificent right footed shot from 20 yards towards goal, and despite a fingertip from Ollerenshaw, the ball hit the back of the net.

Six minutes later, Craig Radcliffe delivered another fine corner, but, James Knowles’ powerful header struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced away from danger.

HALF TIME: CURZON ASHTON 0-1 BRADFORD (PARK AVENUE)

After the break, Bradford continued to put pressure on the home side, but, were unable to double their advantage. John Deacey sat in the dugout watching Danny Holland, Richard Marshall and right back Liam Wakefield squander goalscoring opportunities.

The Avenue were punished for their inability to convert their chances by the Blues’. Curzon Ashton caught out poor marking from the Bradford defence, and Dennis turned inside onto his right foot, and fired the ball past Tim Deasy from ten yards.

But, the scores didn’t remain level for long. Alex Davidson produced a fine piece of skill to escape the left back, and slotted the ball to Danny Holland, and despite seeing his first effort saved, the striker hammered the rebound into the top corner from 10 yards.

Despite a lack of goalscoring activity for nearly 15 minutes, Bradford got the crucial third goal. A header by Paul Walker confused the Blues’ right back George Bowyer, and the Avenue’s number 11 delivered a low cross to Danny Holland, who turned and shot with his left foot from 10 yards into the bottom corner.

However, Curzon Ashton tried to fight their way back into the game, but, Tim Deasy denied long range shots from substitute Bradley Robinson and Tony Evans.
