Talented winger Nicky Clee has become Mark Bower’s first new signing of the summer, joining the club from recently relegated Altrincham.

The left-sided player arrives at the Horsfall Stadium boasting a wealth of non-league experience, making 263 league appearances during a seven year spell across the Pennines.

Clee, 33, spent time at Bower’s Guiseley as well as Harrogate Town last term, before rejoining Altrincham for the second half of the campaign.

“Nicky is a player that I’ve admired for a long time,” The Avenue manager said.

“For that reason, I was pleased to be able to sign him last summer.

“Unfortunately I didn’t get very long to work with him, so I’m looking forward to seeing a bit more of him this season.

“Nicky played with Danny Boshell before at Altrincham, so we’re confident he has the character and football ability to fit into our squad.”

Working his way up through the non-league ranks, Clee featured for Ossett Albion, Ashton United and Hyde before joining Conference side Altrincham in 2009.

He scored five goals in 71 appearances before they were relegated two years into the winger’s stay.

18 goals in 113 appearances followed in the Conference North, culminating in a play-off final victory against Bower’s Guiseley in 2014.

Clee then grabbed seven goals in 34 appearances in the National League before an injury hit 2015-16 campaign saw him start just three games, appearing in 15 league games in total.

Altrincham were relegated and the creative winger joined National League side Guiseley, making 14 league appearances in the early months of last season.

He played four times in the league at Harrogate, before moving back to Moss Lane in January, adding another goal and 21 appearances to his tally at Altrincham.

Clee becomes the first new addition at Avenue this summer as the squad begins to take shape, and he joins Shane Killock, Oli Johnson and Nicky Wroe in signing on the dotted line ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
