Wednesday 16th October – away to Middleton

Full time 4-5

Half time 0-2

The Avenue college league team headed to a very windy Middleton Academy P2P ground this Wednesday. After the disappointment of Monday night’s late loss Alex Meechan and his team were looking for a response. With numbers in the academy blooming this season team rotation is regular. The scholars started brightly as both teams struggling to get to grips with the conditions and the first ten minutes was a cagy affair. Park avenue started to settle and put themselves 1 up thanks to a beautifully curled shot from Joshua Hall. The half looked to fizzle out till Avenue’s Jordan Botwood slotted home a second after a great bit of team work.

After the break the weather deteriorated further and it became a real battle. Avenue quickly went 4-0 up via two goals from Bradley Oliver who’s skilful ball work and hold up play made Avenues attack strong throughout the game. P2P continued to fight and brought the score back to 4-2 before Avenue slotted home their fifth. A lovely weighted ball into the box from Hamzah Ikram was headed home by Andre Tarvernier. The game looked to be dead and buried but P2P had other ideas and they brought the score back to 5-4. Some courageous defending from the centre half pairing of Harry Holmes and Lewis Johnson and a last minute flying save by Keeper Luke Gill gave Avenue the three points in a tough, wet, windy game. That’s 2 wins from 2 now for Meechan’s men in the college league. We now look forward to an U19s game vs Shelley on Monday 7:30ko.
